Laura spent six months at JAL as a paralegal before beginning her training contract in June 2019 ago. She is hoping to qualify in July 2021.

Commercial (inc. litigation and debt recovery) – 30 cases

Protection of liability for contractor working with architects and surveyors through the means of a specific JCT contract.

Employment (inc. litigation)  - 10 cases

Determination of variation of contractual terms and ‘working under protest’.

Property (contentious and non-contentious)  – 40 cases

Various including lease extensions, collective enfranchisements, landlord and tenant disputes including possession claims and Japanese knotweed disputes.

Other – 10 cases

Enforcement of order for child maintenance from EU member state by UK domiciled applicant against non-EU domiciled respondent.

Percentage of time spent on your areas?

Commercial: 40%

Employment: 40%

Others: 20%

Complexity and types of issues you deal with?

Commercial – generally simple; commercial leases, commercial contracts (drafting), litigation (e.g. breach of contract – more complex).

Employment – Settlement Agreements (generally standard).

Litigation (can be more complex)

Property – standard lease extension and enfranchisement matters, drafting leases, recovery of service charge arrears and more complex litigation e.g. possession

Others – can be complex legal issues to research and determine next steps.
